Singapore: MaxMobile Prepaid

StarHub calls its prepaid mobile broadband service "MaxMobile Prepaid"

Note a "fair-use policy" of 2GB a day applies.

A prepaid broadband SIM comes with S$12 value.

StarHub sells prepaid starter kits for those without a 3G modem, as of April 2009 the kit costs S$69 for a 3.6Mbps modem (for 2Mbps plans) with a S$12 value SIM card, and S$99 for a 7.2Mbps modem with a $12 value SIM card.

How to buy
The prepaid broadband cards can be purchased from any StarHub shops (which are located around the country) or from many convenience stores. A passport is required for registration of all prepaid SIM cards in Singapore. Registration is done at the store itself. Prepaid starter kits can be purchased from StarHub shops, as well as many convenience stores (such as 7-Eleven) and gas stations.

Activation
StarHub's prepaid broadband cards need to be activated by selecting the time period and speed desired. This can be done by sending an special SMS code using the prepaid mobile broadband SIM (this can usually be done via the software bundled with the 3G modem). If you use the starter kit, the bundled software has an interface where you can select the desired time/speed from. If you use your own 3G modem you would have to use the SMS method.

Validity
The prepaid SIM card is valid for 6 months from the last top-up date.

Top Up
To extend the use of the prepaid SIM card, the cards can be "topped-up", either by credit card or through the purchase of "top-up cards" for S$18 or S$38 value.
It seems that only local credit cards are accepted.
Top-up cards can be used by sending a special SMS code: <TOPUP><space><10 digit top-up card number><space><6 digit PIN number> to 6782. This can be conveninent for those without credit cards.
Note that top up cards can be bought for less if you buy from some neighbourhood shops rather than big convenience store chains. Just check that the top-up cards are not expired before purchasing.
